New Zealand Secondary Students' Choir

Vita

The New Zealand Secondary Students‘ Choir (NZSSC) is a project choir of the secondary schools of New Zealand. The singers are students between the ages of 13 and 18 from different schools in New Zealand and meet for a week of intensive rehearsal time during each school holiday. This usually ends with concerts in various cities of New Zealand or participations in international choir festivals or competitions.

The NZSSC has built up an excellent reputation over the past 30 years through international tours. On the last two he was invited as a guest choir to international competitions. This opened up amazing opportunities to perform with numerous international choirs and to work with conductors from around the world.
The then festival director of the Canadian International Choral Kathaumixw, Paul Cummings, praised the choir: “Our committee and the residents of Powell River feel connected to their wonderful ensemble. We are still talking about your compelling achievements here in 2010. I know that the choir does a great job and is a wonderful ambassador for New Zealand on the international choir stage. The NZSSC is known for offering its aidience a fun, moving and varied program, which I think is a good combination.”

Last year, the choir hosted a Pacific music workshop in Hong Kong in which 300 Asian students learned the movements of Samoan songs – the choir members were loved for their open and friendly nature.
