A colorful 7th International Children’s Choir Festival lays behind us.
In 2018, our festival again welcomed guests from all over the world. In addition to choirs from Armenia, Georgia, Serbia and South Africa, also young participants from Canada sang into the hearts of their audience. Multifaceted personalities, music from all countries of origin and impressive choreographies formed an unforgettable festival week. About 200 young artists, aged 11 to 18, harmonized in a fascinating harmony.
Finally, concerts such as the school concert and the opening concert could again take place in a well-known home, the Dresden Kulturpalast. After a year-long renovation, it reopened again in 2017, shining in new splendor. This was an absolute highlight especially for our local concertgoers. The lovingly named “Kulti” has been the home of the Dresden Philharmonic for years. The Philharmonic Children’s Choir was again the host of the Interantion Children’s Choir Festival this year and welcomed its guests with warmth and empathy.
In addition to fixed program items such as a workshop day, the reception of the city, the opening concert, encounter concerts, flash mobs, the closing party and the final concert in the Dresden Frauenkirche, last year some new events were also on the schedule. So for the first time there was a school concert as part of our festival. For several months, Choral Director Gunter Berger worked with the students on a program. Schoolchoirs from all over Dresden, who were actively supported by their classmates, could take part. They offered our guests a completely new perspective on the musical diversity of Dresden. Each guest choir thanked our smallest listeners and contributors with a short excerpt from the local repertoire.
Afterwards there was an exchange of views between the choirmasters on topics such as “Singing is the foundation of music and music education, singing is building communities, it promotes personality, health and all kinds of skills”. Under the moderation of Andrea Thilo, all participants exchanged experiences in dealing with children and adolescents. The first international symposium was a complete success.
A free, digital encyclopedia says: “The term home usually refers to a relationship between humans and space.”
Home is not a place. Home is a feeling. An organization team consisting of seven volunteers, host schools such as the Oberschule Weixdorf, the Laborschule Dresden and the Gymnasium Freital, with about 300 students who have taken on sponsorships for our guest choirs, members of the Philharmonic Children’s Choir Dresden and other freelance volunteers have made it their mission to convey exactly this feeling. We are especially grateful for the support of the city of Dresden, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Goethe-Institut Dresden and our patron Dr. Eva-Maria Stange. Important supporters are also the “Fotoklub EXAKTA Dresden e.V.”, “onlion shops”, “IBB Dresden” and others.
Currently, planning for the upcoming festival has picked up speed. We are constantly working to optimize the festival and create memorable moments for all involved.
